What Is My Hair Type 1, 2, 3 or 4?

Knowing what type of hair you have will help you determine how to best care for your hair and how to make sure it looks its best naturally. Of course, everyone wonders what type of hair they have. That’s what we at Saints & Sinners Haircare are here to help you with.

There are four main hair types: Type 1 hair, Type 2 hair, Type 3 hair and Type 4 hair. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about each of the four hair types.

Type 1 Hair

Type 1 hair is straight hair with no natural curl from root to tip. You can have thick Type 1 hair and you can also have thin Type 1 hair. One downside about having Type 1 hair is that it has a tendency to become oily. With Type 1 hair, try to avoid over use of hair care products.

If you are looking for products to make your Type 1 hair stand out, we recommend our Velvet Divine Leave-In Conditioner which adds the perfect amount of condition without weighing down straight strands.

Type 2 Hair

Type 2 hair is wavy hair. There are three different types of Type 2 hair: Type 2a, Type 2b, and Type 2c. All of these different variations of Type 2 hair have different s-shape wave patterns (Type 2a is looser wave whereas Type 2c is tighter waves but not quite curls).

Type 2 hair typically lacks volume, as the waves tend to pull your hair down from the roots. If you have Type 2 hair and are looking for more volume to help your waves look amazing, try our Divine Dry Finish Texture Spray.

Type 3 Hair

Type 3 hair is curly hair. Like Type 2 hair, there are also different types of Type 3 hair to reflect variations of curl pattern. Type 3a hair for example, is loose curls. Type 3b hair is tighter curls, and Type 3c hair is curly ringlets.

Unlike Type 2 or Type 1 hair, Type 3 hair types usually don’t lack volume and are light and springy. However, those with Type 3 hair may experience lots of frizz, especially when the weather is humid. If you are looking for defined curls (without the crunch), try our Medusa Divine Curl Cream!

Type 4 Hair

Type 4 hair is tightly coiled and kinky. There are different patterns and types of Type 4 hair (4a, 4b and 4c), but all of these types of hair may experience dullness, coarseness, roughness and frizz due to how tight the curls are coiled.

If you have Type 4 hair, try a smoothing shine product like botanically rich Illuminati Divine Shine Holographic Serum.

We hope our blog answers your questions on the different types of hair. As always, Saints & Sinners Haircare is here for all your hair care needs.

Sinfully Good Styling!
